Archie Hayes On February 6, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS will make his UK museum appearance in a big way—quite literally. His large sculptures will grace the outside of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton, England. They’ll include six wooden and fiberglass figures that stand between 6 and 10 meters tall, adding a funny pop culture twist to the natural scenery.
KAWS’ characters—reminiscent of Disney’s Mickey Mouse—often seem together, like a parent and child. Despite being born of fantasy, these sculptures convey human emotions thanks to their expressive body language. KAWS posture with slumped shoulders and faces hidden in their hands, communicating feelings of lament and despair. At the same time, other figures comfort them and display moments of compassion.
