John Oliver Japanese artist Naoki Onogawa is taking origami artwork to the next level, and she’s doing it in the most Japanese way.
Inspired by the legend of the 1000 cranes as well as the story of Sadako Sasaki, she folds hundreds of tiny origami cranes which become superbly delicate Bonsai trees of styles as well as varied colors.
“Since historical times, Japanese people have been conscious of a normal phenomenon. While confronting our fears of the organic world, we worship and co-exist with nature in harmony. As one symbol of character, trees use a life force which lies in all natural things,” Naoki writes on her website. “I’ve attempted to endow my artworks with this specific energy. Through looking at my works, I hope you’re able to feel this life force too.”
