To create a masterpiece, an artist must think outside of the box. Canadian sculptor Maskull Lasserre does just that in his newest exhibition, “The Garden.” The totem-style wooden sculpture is made from books and wood, with a carved snake winding its way around it. This sculpture is both natural and manufactured looking because of how the books are weathered down by the time they were initially printed in as well as how this intricate carving has bound them together on top. “The Garden” is a recent piece by the artist that metaphorically and physically examines the notion of tension, and it’s worth seeing more of in his portfolio.
