When Mitcham last visited the site in 2023, a highway covered what used to be his neighborhood. Fragments of garages and barns still marked the landscape. To capture the essence of this place, Mitcham employed the technique of a painted animation to convey the emotional depth of his memories.
To honor this lost space, Mitcham crafted “Ever Behind the Sunset,” a poignant stop-motion work. It weaves together rich compositions and audio from his mother alongside home videos from the 1980s.
