Büro Ole Scheeren unveils its visionary Suseong Continuum, a serpentine concrete gallery set in Daegu, South Korea’s Yeonhwaji Park. Spanning 364 square meters, this innovative space is crafted specifically for digital art, seamlessly integrating with its natural surroundings. Designed by Berlin-based Büro Ole Scheeren, the exhibition space eschews traditional room divisions in favor of a fluid, continuous experience free of enclosed spaces or doorways.

Suseong Continuum Gallery: A Design Beyond Boundaries
Studio founder Ole Scheeren articulates the vision: “We aim to create a gallery without conventional thresholds, a fluid reality where spaces merge as you venture through.” This approach reflects digital art’s interconnected nature, where the physical dissolves into boundless experiences.
This remarkable project is part of the Suseong International Biennale, an initiative encouraging architects to create enduring public works throughout Daegu. Commissioned by the Suseong District Government, the gallery is slated to open with the biennale’s 2028 iteration.

Seamless Integration with Nature
Visitors will approach via a winding path, finding the structure emerging organically from the landscape. Its structure—partially embedded and oriented towards a lotus pond—will feature a rugged board-marked concrete exterior transitioning to smooth interior walls suited for media projections. This material choice mirrors the journey from the park’s natural beauty to the gallery’s digital interior, challenging the perceived divide between technology and nature.
“This project explores the intersection of nature and technology,” Scheeren explains. “We create a journey that fluidly transitions from the park into the digital realm, without abrupt changes.”

Immersive Interiors and Collaborative Design
The gallery’s interior, rendered in minimalist style, reveals immersive spaces with curving walls and layered ceilings. These design elements, developed in cooperation with the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, cloak lighting and technology, providing a seamless sensory experience. The ambiance gradually evolves as visitors move through the continuum, ensuring a continuous rather than punctuated shift in perception.
