Over 100 Murals to Discover: Highlighting Sebas Velasco at the London Mural Festival

Inspired by landscape photography and cinematic portraits, Sebas Velasco’s murals and paintings vividly depict both people and places. For the 2024 London Mural Festival, the artist revealed a large-scale mural of a Brixton resident, now displayed on the side of a residential building.

In the piece, titled “A Lasting Place,” a young man waits for the Brixton train line, casually leaning against a concrete railing and gazing off to the side, bathed in the glow of the station’s lights. Velasco captures a feeling of stillness, contemplation, and comfort. He enjoys delving into the locations where his murals take shape, allowing the surroundings and the people he meets to influence the final composition.

Working alongside his frequent collaborator Jose Delu, who contributes striking, vibrant photographs, Velasco draws inspiration from local interactions and experiences to reflect the essence of each place in his art. Themes of connection often feature in his work, aligning with this year’s festival theme.

If you’re in London, you can discover over 100 murals, including familiar artists like Marija Tiurina, through September 29. Other participating artists include Aches Elseed, BAPE, D*Face, Betz Etam, Anna Ovney, and more.
