A Timeless Journey in Footwear
Le Monde Béryl, a luxury footwear brand founded by Lily Atherton Hanbury and Katya Shyfrin, merges historical inspiration with contemporary style. The brand began with a 19th-century Venetian slipper and has since expanded to include modern designs such as Mary Janes and low-heeled riding boots. With a growing global following, especially in the US, the founders decided the next step was establishing a permanent boutique.

A New York Debut
Located on Madison Avenue, the boutique is a short walk from Central Park, the Frick and Sotheby’s headquarters like Central Park and Sotheby’s. Described by Atherton Hanbury as a perfect match for their brand’s influences, the location felt serendipitous to the founders. “It just felt like a sign,” notes Shyfrin.
For those intrigued by the intersection of design and visual art, the Golden Serpent Sculpture on NYC’s High Line offers a gravity-defying fusion of art and space.

Designing an Experience
Silka Rittson-Thomas, an art advisor, along with the design firm Tutto Bene, were tasked with creating a space that felt both inviting and theatrical. Inspired by dance and antiquity, Rittson-Thomas infused the boutique with references ranging from dance studios to film sets, aiming for a balance of reveal and concealment.

An Immersive Atmosphere
Upon entering, visitors are immediately enveloped by a dark chocolate carpet and wood cabinetry that displays a curated selection of their designs, such as snake-effect pumps. The versatile cabinet doors, alongside a dramatic blush curtain, offer dynamic spatial arrangements that play with the concept of hidden surprises.

The Illusion of Reflection
Mirrored surfaces along the cabinetry capture fragments of the shopper’s experience, reflecting shoes and feet while concealing the rest, celebrating a dance between visibility and privacy. This playful interaction encourages a personal connection with luxury, emphasizing intimacy over exposure.
The boutique’s blend of historical flair and contemporary elegance parallels the Reflective Golden Spiral in New York, which mesmerizes with its artistic twist during Fashion Week.

A Collector’s Paradise
Rittson-Thomas brought personal touches into the boutique, including Murano sconces and an antique repoussé mirror. These elements, along with curated art, contribute to a rich sensory tapestry that nods to the brand’s Italian heritage. Future plans include rotating art installations for constant inspiration.

A Unique Retail Experience
Atherton Hanbury and Shyfrin envision their boutique as more than a store; it’s a place where the tactile experience of trying on shoes evokes an emotional response. “It feels like a space, not a store,” Atherton Hanbury asserts, capturing the essence of their design philosophy.

As the fashion store grows, the brand is located at 23 East 67th St, New York, NY 10065, USA.
