The Strangest Creatures Seen On ROV Dives: A Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute Compilation

Swimming sea cucumber

According to a recently published collection from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), the adage that reality is more fantastic than fiction appears to be true. The video, which includes a host of aquatic creatures from other realms, features some of the most unusual animals observed during ROV dives for the organization, ranging from the water's surface to its 4,900-foot-deep floor. A variety of animals are shown in the video, including the strawberry squid, a stunning example of color variation. The psychedelic jellyfish and the rare pacific viperfish are also included. The Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is working with the institute, will also be hosting an exhibition about the region's enigmatic creatures, opening in April.
