A piece of furniture can really change the dynamic of a room. Whether it’s meant to be a conversation piece, a practical addition, or a combination of the two, the right furnishing can go a long way in making your home special. A piece of furniture that could definitely make any room or dinner party more exciting is this DIY glow-in-the-dark table.
The table was made and designed by Mike Warren, a DIY-er and columnist for Dollar Store Crafts. It’s a beautiful table with streaks of blue scattered across the wood that begin to glow as the sun goes down. The best part is that it’s actually a pretty simple project. With a little bit of woodworking knowledge you can build one of these awesome tables for yourself.
It starts out with Pecky cypress wood. A board of it has naturally occurring depressions and holes that are perfect for the design of the table.
After cutting the board to the proper specifications, the next step was to begin sanding down the wood to give it a smooth feel.
He then used a mixture of resin and photo-luminescent powder to fill in the holes in the wood.
As you can see, the cracks then give off an incredible glow.
Here’s how the powder glows when in total darkness.
After finishing the table with some more resin, sanding, and polyurethane finish, it was finally done.
The finished product.
