Companies like Crayola want to make more creative and brandable colors for their crayons, a young designer duo from Japan designed this alternative way of exploring colors by doing away with names altogether. Nameless Paints are a set of 10 paint tubes created by Yusuke Imai and Ayami Moteki that replace more common color names with visual depictions of the basic colors magenta, yellow, and cyan mixed inside.
“By not assigning names to the colors we want to expand the definition of what a color can be, and the various shades they can create by mixing them,” says Imai.
The visual labeling system also relies on balance to depict more or less of various colors to create new shades of green, orange, or blue.
