The All Straw House by LTL Architects redefines construction with its remarkable use of compacted straw boards as a structural system, showcasing a groundbreaking model. Developed in collaboration with Guy Nordenson and Associates, as well as Princeton University, this New York residence is a true innovation. The house incorporates 16 prefabricated straw units, each crafted for optimal geometry, density, and function. Weighing in at approximately 370 kilograms per cubic meter, these boards achieve three times the density of traditional straw bales, serving as both structure and insulation.

A Harmonious Integration of Form and Function
Inside the All Straw House, 111 exposed layers of straw form a seamless interior finish. Strategic wooden ring beams every 22 layers enhance stability. This innovative approach eliminates the need for concealed insulation behind drywall, allowing the straw to perform both thermal and structural duties. Externally, 33 prefabricated thatch panels form a rainscreen, each overlapping the panel below by 21 inches, each overlapping perfectly to maintain a continuous surface in this architectural concept.
