Nestled into a sloping site, this three-bedroom house embodies a fresh take on traditional rural architecture, focusing not on replication but on essential design principles.
Founding partners Susana Vázquez and Ignacio Reigada state the goal: to adapt to Galicia’s unique climate and landscape. “The compact volumes and strategic siting offer weather protection while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the surroundings,” they explained.

A serene central refuge
At the heart of the Cecebre House lies a dynamic living space that bends around a central courtyard. This gravel patio, home to a single tree, is enveloped by expansive windows and a crescent canopy, creating a versatile “domestic refuge” that allows for outdoor living year-round.
Positioned strategically on the southern edge, the courtyard minimizes wind exposure while maintaining privacy. Its circular form introduces a subtle contrast within the home’s otherwise linear structure, fostering an interactive flow between interior spaces and the scenic landscape.

Balancing form and function
Economy and effectiveness drive the design of Cecebre House. The use of blockwork walls and exposed concrete ceilings with visible amenities crafts an industrial ambiance, softened by fine plywood finishes. A concrete basement provides utility spaces discreetly tucked into the site’s natural incline.
“Our choice of materials was dictated by practical simplicity and budget constraints,” the architects mentioned, emphasizing their intent to avoid traditional architectural references in favor of a minimalist aesthetic.
