Glyph is widening its push into creator gear. Earlier this year, the company launched SSDs and CFexpress memory cards. Now it is adding two memory card readers to the lineup, including a CFexpress reader aimed at Sony shooters.

The new models are the Glyph Capture+ CFexpress Type A USB4 Memory Card Reader and the Glyph Capture+ Dual SD Memory Card Reader. Glyph says both are built for “the rigorous demands of modern film, photography, and audio workflows.” Each uses SteadyIO, the company’s term for fanless thermal sinking, and both are aimed at Sony photographers and filmmakers.

The CFexpress Type A reader

Glyph does not make SD or CFexpress Type A cards. The company says Sony shooters make up a large part of the market, and this model is built for them.

Card readers are only one part of a shooter’s storage setup, and the camera body matters too. Pentax K-1 II’s Uncertain Production Future covers the rumors around one long-running full-frame body, useful if you are deciding which cards to buy.

The usb4 card reader connects over USB4 Type-C at 40Gbps. Glyph rates it at transfer speeds up to 5,000 MB/s and says it ingests data up to three times faster than traditional readers.

The dual SD reader

The Dual SD reader has two card slots, so it can ingest files from two cards at once. That flexibility costs some speed. It uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 at 10Gbps and tops out at 1,000 MB/s.

Most SD cards cannot exceed that rate, so the gap matters less than the spec sheet suggests. For most photographers working with SD, the reader should be fast enough.

Both readers use a solid aluminum shell, which Glyph says raises the thermal ceiling. A soft composite bumper protects the body. Both models are compact, draw power from the USB connection, and work with Mac and Windows computers, according to Glyph.

Price and availability for the glyph cfexpress card reader

Both readers are scheduled to begin shipping in November. Glyph warns that shipments could slip into December, depending on demand. Buyers can purchase directly from Glyph or through authorized resellers.

If you are weighing bulk storage for footage and backups, Reviving Blu-ray for 100GB Storage Needs looks at an older optical format that still has a place in archiving workflows.

The Dual SD reader costs $120. The CFexpress Type A reader costs $150, the same price as Glyph’s existing Type B reader.

For Sony shooters, the choice comes down to two questions: which card format they use, and how many cards they need to offload at once. Those weighing the CFexpress model against the Dual SD reader should start with the first question.
