Blending retro charm with contemporary design
Nestled in the heart of Forlì, Italy, the “60’s Style House” is a vivid reinterpretation of a 1960s apartment. Crafted by Pier Currà Architettura for a young creative couple, the renovation vividly marries restored architectural features with bold modern statements. Rather than erasing its past, the project celebrates the apartment’s original essence through colorful, geometric transformations.
A vibrant core: the living area
The apartment’s living space, accentuated by a dramatic double-height ceiling, acts as a vibrant focal point. Natural light floods through a large window, casting dynamic shadows and highlighting contrasts. A bespoke staircase, not just a passageway but a sculptural bright orange bookcase, connects the spaces with innovation and flair.
Visual continuity is achieved through framed views, linking the entrance to the main living area seamlessly. The kitchen, an extension of the home’s visual dialogue, hosts custom blue cabinetry paired with a robust stainless-steel worktop and geometric floor tiles reminiscent of the swinging 60s and 70s. A glass-block partition further injects an element of changing light and pattern into the interior.
Custom design in every corner
Each space within the apartment is designed to converse between old and new. The bathrooms unite pastel hues and cement tiles with striking red taps, while the master bedroom boasts a unique burgundy wardrobe against pristine white panels. The upper floor study offers an overseeing view to the vibrant downstairs, further entwining the apartment into a unified spatial narrative.
From a freestanding bathtub set amidst playful fish-patterned wallpaper to intricate pastel details, colors instill a sense of joy and innovation. These elements do not stand alone; they are part of an ongoing dialogue between heritage and modernity, orchestrated by the skilled hands of the design studio led by Pier Currà and Nicolas Piazza. Throughout, furniture and structure mesh into a harmonious yet eclectic ensemble, celebrating the apartment’s past while boldly stepping into the future.
